Alaska: Day Four

Prince George, BC to Dawson Creek, BC

06/15/2010, 252 miles

In the morning we called a few shops to try to locate a battery for the SV650 and get someone to test the charging system. The first dealer we called wasn't a Suzuki dealer and said they wouldn't test the SV650. This was irritating--it would not have been much effort for someone to put a multimeter across two battery leads and observe voltage for a stranded traveler. But whatever, I guess next time I'll remember to bring a multimeter. The second place we called was a Suzuki dealer but their motorcycle tech had the day off. Also irritating--this was a Tuesday. They had a battery but said it'd be 4 hours to charge it. We set out for the shop around 11:30 and of course the SV650 started right up. Nonetheless we changed the battery for peace of mind. Of course, the delay meant another day short of miles and I began to question whether or not we'd make it to Alaska at all, let alone the Arctic Circle.

Route 97 to Dawson Creek passes through the Canadian Rockies and there was more spectacular scenery. A random rest stop:

Otherwise, the roads were good, weather continued to be perfect, and Janna stopped using her heated vest. The SV650 kept going like nothing had happened.
